About Us
The Pandemic and the near recession has wrecked havoc on many innocent
lives. Not the least of which include children and youth. The number of youth
who are experiencing food insecurity and homelessness has skyrocketed. To add
insult to injury many kids who previously were in foster care or emergency shelters may also have not
experienced loving and stable homes and
having reached the age of 18 are booted onto the streets to fend for
themselves. Many of these children and youth have no life skills to prepare
them to transition into productive members of the community and are prey to
drug addiction, crime or worse.
WALK IN NEWNESS (WINN) is a nonprofit house of refuge whose mission is
to help provide a safe and stable home
to help address the youth homelessness crisis. Located in the Jackson, MS area and the first
to offer this program for the Young Adults that are aging out of the Foster Care system, in transition, at risk of being homeless, coming out of emergency shelters or that are already
experiencing homelessness. WINN was conceived to provide a healthy, nourishing,
stable home-like environment where the transitional youth can learn the
necessary life skills to enable them to easily transition into adulthood and
become productive citizens.
WINN will provide a home for the individuals that they can live in for 2
years and/or up to the age maturity of 23 years. The home will provide a safe
environment with 24 hours 7 days a week supervision.
There will be a program parent overnight so they will never be without
supervision. While in the program, each individual will be taught life skills
that will help and assist them to transition into self-sufficiency and
independence. It is the goal that upon leaving
the program each person will be equipped to live successfully on their own.
They will have a job, degree or trade and will have been taught life skills
such as budgeting, money management ,etc,
